Why do we need an Indian critical care registry?

Epidemiology of critical illness in India remains largely undefined

Mortality rates are as high as 40-50% from critical illness depending on the severity of disease, location and type of Intensive care unit, access to health care and affordability

Data is sparse on the geographical spread, resource availability, staffing patterns, case mix and outcomes for ICUs across India

Several high income countries have well established critical care registries that have improved outcomes from critical illness ( e.g. ICNARCANZICS CORE)

Recently lower and middle income countries have started their own registries (NICST and Epimed)

IRIS represents the first such endeavour in India

IRIS currently has 14 ICUs (including 1 pediatric ICU) and is rapidly expanding!
